40 years of success

We were born out of a dream and over the years we have developed into an outstanding company driven by the commitment of those of us who make up GMV. As a start-up at the beginning, diversification allowed us to expand our activities, grow, and achieve excellent competitiveness to gradually consolidate our position in multiple areas and become one of the main players in the sectors where we operate. Below, you can browse through GMV’s four stages to see our most important milestones.

1984

Juan José Martínez García, with a handful of associates, founded the first company of what is now the multinational technology group GMV

1985

First contract signed with ESA’s European Space Operations Center (ESOC)
Launch of ESA’s Giotto probe, for which GMV was involved in the flight dynamics and mission analysis
Collaboration with CASA in the design of a ballistic projectile

1987

GMV joined ESA’s manned flight programs: the Hermes launch system and the Columbus orbital outpost

1988

GMV was recognized by ESA as a center of excellence in orbital mechanics
ESTEC commissioned GMV to study the possible use of GPS in orbital approach and docking maneuvers
Development of a missile simulator for the Spanish Navy’s Research and Development Center

1989

1990

Development of software for precise GPS satellite orbit determination for ESA
GMV began to work for CNES on the Helios system
Development of simulator modules for the CASA (now Airbus Military) CN-235 aircraft

1991

First contract with Hispasat to support the development and manufacture of the Spanish operator’s first satellite
Flight dynamics and mission control systems for ERS-1, the first Earth observation satellite launched by ESA

1992

ESA selected GMV to develop status monitoring equipment for GPS and GLONASS satellites
Product development and integration for telecommunications company Motorola
Development of ground systems for the Helios II military satellite

1993

1994

AENA commissioned GMV to develop a differential GPS-based approach and landing system

1995

1996

First contract with Airtel (now Vodafone) to host its web portal
Development of a multi-system navigation receiver (GPS, GLONASS, and SBAS) for Sextant Avioniques
